A message from our Chairman
As I read nearly every day in the news about the effects of the financial crisis and other negative stories, I see a need for more positive stories to think about and share, and with this in mind, I wanted to reflect on Excellent's success over recent times.
It’s easy when sitting on a board to focus on issues and risks but I wanted to make a point of thanking our founders Simon & Joshua, the rest of our team and our donors and funders who have supported us over the last 6 years. Being involved in and watching the growth of Excellent Development from a kitchen table operation to an organisation turning over close to a million pounds a year has been exciting, thrilling and at times nail-biting. But our hard work has lead to some great results, and puts us in a strong position to move forward. We have raised over £2 million in funds since we started which has enabled us to build 204 dams, plant over half a million trees and dig nearly 870 km of terracing. And most importantly we have worked with 55 communities who will have clean water this Christmas, as a result of the work we have been involved in. In the UK we are starting to gain a good reputation within the sector having won The Charity Awards this year and then being shortlisted for annual report of the year by The Third Sector. Gaining a profile within the sector and building relationships with other NGOs is important for our longer term advocacy goals. We want to share the skills developed in Kenya with other groups, and other NGOs, so more people worldwide can benefit from sand dams. There will surely be challenges in the current economic environment and I want to take this opportunity to say that we really do appreciate and value very highly all of the support you give us. It's important to remember we have a great story to share, and that we have all contributed to that. I for one am proud to be Excellent Development's Chairman and proud to be associated with Excellent Development. Have a great Christmas Steve email - steve@excellentdevelopment.com news summary... |
