Praise from British High Commissioner

Sir Edward Clay
Sir Edward Clay

Excellent Development has earned high praise for its work in Africa from the British High Commissioner, Sir Edward Clay.

In addition, Excellent had been awarded £25,000 DfID funding towards its dam building programme in 2005. This is a significant increase on the £9,000 worth of funding provided by DfID in 2004.

After visiting our projects in January 2005, Sir Edward Clay wrote to Joshua saying: "I really enjoyed seeing the achievements of the members of the project and admired what they and the project leaders had managed to do with the funding we have provided. It was clearly money well spent!"

As outgoing High Commissioner, Sir Edward Clay has courted controversy over his views on corruption and commitment to 'real development'.

His visit to our projects obviously had an impact - in June 2005 he wrote an opinion article in Kenya's Sunday Nation, stating: "Joshua Mukusya motivates, stimulates and gives his expertise. Men and women give their local knowledge and do the hard work of construction... there is real 'empowerment' for you: the role of the community plain for everyone to see, and the people's satisfaction in gradually changing their own lives."

The DfID small grants scheme will enable Excellent to build 15 dams and extend 5 this year - 12 of which have already been completed.
