Quest August 2005

The second WaterRelief team included nine volunteers from the Isle of Man, of whom three were sponsored by the Isle of Man Governor's Golden Jubliee Trust. The group helped at the Utooni Development Project, which is the longest-running project and the originator of all our work. The dams in this area are up to 30 years old, so it was high time for some improvement work. The team got stuck in and extended two dams in Mikono Valley and another one in Makanga. They also taught in Mikono Primary School.

The Volunteers help collect stones for use in the Mikono Dam.

Katie gets stuck in and shows the men how it's done, moving cement ready for mixing; whilst Steph takes a momentary break from all the hard work to give Simon a wave, and some local women from the Utooni Development Project prepare a hot lunch.

And there's more! The team went on to extend a dam in Makanga. On the right you can see the impact the dam has had on the valley so far, making it lush and green.

Finally the team went to teach at Mikono Primary School.....
