Telegraph Appeal Raises £220k for Excellent
The Daily Telegraph Christmas Appeal has raised an incredible £1 million, of which over £200K has been donated to Excellent.
The Excellent Development UK team were thrilled to collect a cheque for nearly £220K from the Daily Telegraph on the 10th February. Our communications manager Sophie Bown said "Winning a place in the Telegraph Christmas Appeal has been an incredible experience. The money raised means we will be able to help more people, more quickly, to improve their lives. The simple idea of sand dams has clearly struck a chord.” Simon Maddrell, Executive Director, added “The fantastic response from The Telegraph readers will help us take a substantial step towards helping millions of people worldwide to gain access to clean water and grow enough food to eat and sell. "Since 2002, Excellent Development has supported over a quarter of a million people in Kenya to gain access to clean water by building over 230 sand dams. The money raised through the Daily Telegraph Christmas Appeal will allow us to pioneer sand dam technology in other parts of Africa and the world.” Sand dams are the lowest-cost form of rainwater harvesting - just £7 per person provides clean year-round water for life. Excellent Development’s 2020 vision sees three million farmers each year gaining access to clean water through community-owned sand dam projects.
