Excellent Smoothies
Many of you will be familiar with delicious innocent smoothies, but did you know that innocent drinks gives 10% of its profits to charity, via the innocent foundation? And that Excellent Development is one of the charities supported by this foundation? We are currently being featured on the back of litre cartons of innocent smoothies – in this case Mango and Passion Fruit. Look out for the packs in your local shops!
Excellent Development are really pleased to have the support of the innocent foundation, as the multi-year funding enables longer-term planning by the Meka community and allows a deeper relationship to build between them and innocent. In fact, Graham from innocent is stopping by to meet the Meka group and the Excellent Development staff later this month! Funding from the innocent foundation is enabling Meka self-help group to create secure water and food supplies, and boost income-generating opportunities. Now in the second year of their three year project, the community have already built four sand dams, planted more than 9,000 trees and dug over 9 km of terracing. The community have been able to take advantage of Excellent’s goat improvement scheme, crossing their own local goats with 75% Toggenbergs to produce hardy offspring with four times the milk production. They have also had real success in stocking two community seed banks, which will store enough seeds to insure them against future drought. With this support from the innocent foundation, the Meka community are lifting themselves out of poverty and creating a sustainable future. With secure water supplies and productive soil, farmers are even able to plant their own mango trees and passion fruit vines, which as you know make excellent smoothies!
