UK Annual Review 2008/9

The past year has seen many successes for Excellent Development, as we continue to expand our work with community groups in Kenya and grow our income to support their activities. Our Annual Review brings into focus the benefits of soil and water conservation for the communities we work with, as well as our vision to bring the techniques they have developed to other communities worldwide.

Some highlights from the past year include:
· 57 self-help groups engaged
· 54 sand dams built
· 230km of terracing done
· Over 100,000 trees planted
Excellent Development has supported them by:
· Raising over £840,000 in income
· Implementing a Food for Work programme to combat the effects of crop
failures caused by successive droughts, allowing newly-formed
community groups to improve soil and water conservation and build
  resilience against future droughts
· Launching plans to build programmes and partnerships in order to
translate our work to other dryland regions of the world
