Excellent Development has a two-part mission, incorporating overseas development in Africa and development education in the UK and worldwide. 1. We enable disadvantaged communities in Africa to transform their environment sustainably and improve water supplies, food production, health and incomes.
Excellent Development works with community self-help groups in Africa to improve their livelihoods, health and incomes. The communities we work with face many problems in their day to day lives, in particular the shortage of water and food. Their environment is also affected by deforestation. Our holistic approach to these problems starts with the building of small sand dams and the terracing of the adjoining land, followed by the planting of trees. These measures result in improved soil and water conservation, which enables increased food production. Water supply is further improved by the construction of pipelines and water tanks. Food security is increased by the creation of community seed banks. Community members benefit from improved health and less time spent collecting water. They are also able to take advantage of income generation and educational opportunities which improve their long-term livelihood security.
