Emily Brewster and Christine Whinney from Excellent Development ran a stall at the 2018 Tynwald Day Fair at St John’s on the Isle of Man on Thursday 5th July.

Tynwald Day is the National Day of the Isle of Man. In a tradition dating back to 1417, the island’s legislature holds a meeting on Tynwald Hill to promulgate bills, listen to petitions and swear in public officials.

A fair is also held on Tynwald Day, with stalls selling all kinds of food and crafts, and many charities who have a presence on the island also attend to tell people more about what they do.

We were very inspired to meet so many of our Manx supporters and friends, while also making new connections on this island which has been such a strong supporter of Excellent for well over a decade.

Many thanks to everyone who came over for a chat and to play our photo caption game! We were very impressed by how many people guessed correctly which photos of sand dams were taken in Kenya, and which in Mozambique or Zimbabwe.

We are extremely grateful for everyone’s support on the day and their ongoing efforts to give further dryland communities the opportunity to access safe water, close to home, and to work their way out of poverty.

Particular thanks to Wendy and her team of volunteers at the One World Centre who organised the day and made it such a success.

We look forward to meeting many more of our Manx supporters at next year’s Tynwald Day Fair!

Could you donate today and supply more communities with the tools, hardware, support and guidance they need to build a sand dam, providing themselves with a lifelong supply of water?
