Support us Fundraise for us Fundraising stories £1,292.72 raised in the Fred Whitton Challenge Published in May 2014 Congratulations and a huge thank you to Ian Barnes, Matt Harper and our (former) trustee, Richard Barnes! The three supporters raised £1,292.72 for Sand Dams Worldwide in the 2014 Fred Whitton Challenge, a tough bike ride of 112 miles around the Lake District. It was hard going at times, with pouring rain, but with strong support from the crowd, and other participants, the three completed the course in less than 10 hours. Ian said: “It was tough but brilliantly organised and the atmosphere on the road was amazing.” Well done to Ian, Matt and Richard for exceeding their fundraising target of £1,000. Their donation went on to support our work in drylands, helping some of the world's poorest people work their way out of poverty with dignity. The Fred Whitton Challenge was set up in memory of Fred Whitton, the late racing secretary of the Lakes Road Club.
